COMPETITION PROGRAM

     1. The International Competition for Pianists and Violinists „Pancho Vladigerov“ is held in three rounds for each specialty, opened for audience. 

     2. A maximum of 6 participants in each specialty may be admitted to a third round. 

     3. The works of the competition are necessarily fulfilled by heart. Exceptions are allowed only when performing violin and piano sonatas in the second violin specialty tour, and for the two specialties – in performing contemporary works written over the last 20 years, the note material should be submitted to the Secretariat of the International Registration Contest of the participant. 

Preliminary information on the materials of the works included in the competition program by Pancho Vladigerov can be obtained at the following address:  foundation.vladigerov@hotmail.com . 
Candidates from abroad, who have submitted documents for participation in the international competition, must receive a photocopy of the works by Pancho Vladigerov, who have included in their program.

PIANO SPECIALTY

FIRST TOUR – up to 20 minutes

Performance of works by 4 different authors / recommended to be of different styles /, and must be present between them:

  • Chopin – an etude (optional)
  • Pancho Vladigerov – one of the following plays / optional:
    • „Nine years have become, Jonke“ op. 25 № 4, in Bulgarian songs and dances;
    • Melancholy op. 37, No. 2, on Watercolors;
    • Arieta op. 51 No. 4, on the Five Piece Suite

SECOND TOUR – not less than 40 and not more than 50 minutes

REITAL with a program of the candidate’s choice, which can not be duplicated in the first round and must necessarily include: 

  • Beethoven – a sonata
  • P. Vladigerov – the two pieces of the following piano cycles (optional):
    • from Three Pieces op. 15 – № 2 Autumn Elegy and № 3 Humor;
    • of Episodes op. 36 – №4 Improvisation and № 5 Tokata;
    • of Novellet op. 59 – №4 Nocturne and № 5 Perpetual mobile;

THIRD TOUR

First stage – instrumental concert with stringed chamber orchestra, (optional):

  • Mozart – Concerto for piano and orchestra № 11 KV 413;
  • – Concerto for piano and orchestra №12 KV 414;
  • – Concerto for piano and orchestra №13 KV 415;

Second stage – an instrumental concert with a symphony orchestra (optional)

  • Beethoven – Concerts for piano and orchestra № 3 c minor and No. 5 in Es Dur
  • Chopin – Concerto for piano and orchestra № 1, e moll and № 2, f minor
  • Tchaikovsky – Concerto for piano and orchestra № 1, b moll
  • Rahmaninov – Concerto for piano and orchestra № 2, C dur
  • P. Vladigerov – Concerto for piano and orchestra № 3 op. 31

Participants wishing to compete for the „Best Performance of a Work by P. Vladigerov“ must perform in a third round the piano concert by P. Vladigerov.

SPECIALTY AND DIVERSITY

FIRST TOUR – up to 20 minutes

 

  • ONE PRE-CLASSIC SONDA with accompaniment / optional /
  • ONE CAPRIPE for solo violin from Paganini or from Wieniavski (optional)
  • P. Vladigerov – „Song“ by „Bulgarian Suite“ op. 21

SECOND TOUR – not less than 40 and not more than 50 minutes

REITAL with a program of choice of the candidate, which includes works of different styles, not to repeat plays from the first round and necessarily include a play by Pancho Vladigerov, by choice of the following:

  • First Bulgarian paraphrase „Horo“ by op. 18;
  • Second Bulgarian paraphrase „Ruchenitsa“ from op. 18
  • Rhapsody „Vardar“ op. 16
  • „Burleska“ op. 14

THIRD TOUR

First stage – instrumental concert with stringed chamber orchestra, (optional):

  • JS Bach – Concerto for violin and string orchestra E Dur;
  • – Concerto for violin and string orchestra a moll;

Second stage – an instrumental concert with a symphony orchestra (optional)

  • BETOVEN – Concerto for violin and orchestra
  • BRASS – Concerto for violin and orchestra
  • CHAIKOVSKI – Concerto for violin and orchestra
  • PROKOFIEV – Concerto for violin and orchestra № 1
  • P. VLADIGEROV – Concerto for violin and orchestra № 1

Participants wishing to compete for the „Best Performance of a Work by P. Vladigerov“ must meet in a third round the concert of P. Vladigerov.
